I will be in Atlanta for a technical committee meeting at the Joint Propulsion Conference in Atlanta, GA in a couple of weks.

I hope to spend an extra day or so in town with my better half and Charlie (who is now 3) just sightseeing. Does anyone, ahem, have any suggestions on things to see and do with a toddler in Hotlanta? Or where the best BBQ is?

And a related question.

Does anyone know how safe the downtown area around Olympic Park, Suntrust Plaza, and the Peachtree Center is? What about the public transit network?

In case anyone is considering going to Atlanta:

The Georgia Aquarium is awesome! Especially if you have a three year old who loves sharks, whales, otters, seals, penguins, etc.

But even if you don't it is cool. Be careful of the lines. I'd advise getting there when they open and/or getting an advance ticket.

The Botanical Garden was really beautiful too, and had plenty of stuff for kids.

Oh, for heaven's sake, I LIVE in Atlanta and I missed this post completely. I fail. Sorry, Chris, and I would have loved to meet you, too. Did you get to Fox Brothers BBQ?

They do a good EVERYTHING. The smoked prime rib is insane, as are the fried pickles. Mind you, I eat at Heirloom Market BBQ, http://heirloommarketbbq.com/, which is right down the street from me, and is even more amazing; Korean-American BBQ fusion that works totally. Korean wife who used to be the Britney Spears of Korea but wanted to cook, and American husband. I eat there a LOT. It's this tiny little place, always packed. The meat is American-style, but the special sides are things like daikon slaw, Korean sweet potatoes, etc.
