Not that that comes as a surprise to anyone. FOX said they would finish out the 13 episode order and air all the new episodes. Whedon has pledged to give the show an ending.

"Dollhouse" is closing its doors at Fox.

The network has canceled Joss Whedon's cult fave, which in May beat the odds with a second-season pickup despite low ratings.

The sci-fi series, which is filming episode 11, is expected to finish its 13-episode order. Whedon is said to be on board and plans to give the show a proper ending with a big finale.

After some dismal performance in the fall, despite the ratings bumps "Dollhouse" got from DVR viewing, Fox benched the show for the November sweep after four episodes.

Fox plans to air all produced episodes of "Dollhouse," which will return with originals Dec. 4 as planned.

"Dollhouse" stars Eliza Dushku as a DNA-altered woman who gets implanted false memories for various missions and tasks.

Fox already has picked up breakout freshman dramedy "Glee" for a full season, while sophomore drama "Lie to Me" is waiting for an episodic order after receiving an order for three additional scripts last month. Freshman comedy "Brothers" is also still awaiting its fate, but its chances don't look good.

Initial reports here.

Too bad. It was an idea with a lot of promise, but never seemed to quite find its footing this season.

You should be happy about "Glee" though. :)

Glee is adictive and it does have a cute asian actress in it! The music is very cool.

I was expecting this to happen at some point. So, not surprised. At least we get to see the rest of the season.

To echo (pun intenteded) most of your comments, while not unexpected, a sad announcement nonetheless.

Is it too much to hope that some other network will pick it up a la Scrubs? Syfy perhaps?

It was good while it lasted, and I can just imagine how much this is going to sting once the episodes get even better as the season progress(per JW). This is probably why he made Epitaph One way back - to safeguard a semblance of closure in a harsh TV environment!

Look at the bright side

Tahmoh is now available to work full time on River World, especially if it becomesa series.

I don't know if I strictly consider that a bright side, given the general run of Skiffy quality.... :sigh:

btw, Rossum is of course a reference to Karel Capek's play (and book) R.U.R. : "Rossum's Universal Robots"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.U.R._(Ro ... _Robots%29

Quote:
R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) is a science fiction play in the Czech language by Karel Čapek. It premiered in 1921, and is noted for introducing the term "robot".

...

The play begins in a factory that makes 'artificial people' – they are called Robots, but are closer to the modern idea of androids or even clones – creatures who can be mistaken for humans, that can think for themselves. Although they seem happy to work for humans, that changes and leads to the end of the human race due to a hostile robot rebellion.

No, RDM (or Glen A. Larson) didn't invent anything.

Quote:
The word robota means literally work, labor or serf labor, and figuratively "drudgery" or "hard work" in Czech and many Slavic languages.

Ahem, weird, I'm the one who posts in a Dollhouse thread... (I'm not using the main Dollhouse thread, to avoid polluting it with these digressions)

For those who miss Cameron (or Allison Young) from Terminator:TSCC, here are some screenshots of Summer Glau in the 11th episode of S2 Dollhouse.

By the way, the guy at the end of the episode makes the origin of the "Rossum" name clear: "It's just a name... from a play" (R.U.R., from K. Capek - see above)

I wondered if you caught the name reference, and can I get an "ohmigod!!!" for the whole whiplashy episode? Did you get the Firefly line?

I must admit I only watched Firefly for the first time recently, so I didn't get the reference. Plus: no subtitles...
