According to The Hollywood Reporter

Quote:
Grace Park, aka Lt. Sharon "Boomer" Valerii from "Battlestar," has joined CBS' "Hawaii Five-O" remake.

The updated take on the original series centers on an elite branch of the Hawaii State Police headed by Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin).

Park will play Kono Kalakaulau, the niece of squad member Chin Ho Kelly, played by "Lost's" Daniel Dae Kim.

Kono is a beautiful and smart champion surfer who is about to graduate from the police academy when McGarrett recruits her to join his team.

That is really cool.

Does this mean that the new Hawaii Five-O remake will include unicorns, rainbows, and rockets in it? I can't wait!

A few more details:
Quote:
Battlestar Galactica’s Grace Park has joined the cast of CBS’s updated Hawaii Five-O slated to start filming on Oahu March 8 or 15….Park will play Kona Kalakua, niece of squad member Chin Ho Kelly, who will be played by Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim. In the pilot, Park’s character is a champion surfer in the police academy who’s recruited to join the police unit run by Steve McGarrett played by Alex O’Loughlin.…

Kalakaua is 23-27 years old… In the script she’s described as “a spectacular Asian/Hawaiian beauty…with the smarts to match her amazing physical prowess”… Kalakaua’s primary interest in the pilot is becoming a cop. She’s about to graduate from the police academy when McGarrett recruits her to join his team. Kalakaua goes undercover as a downtrodden immigrant girl looking for help from a notorious human trafficker, a dangerous assignment – it involves sex slavery “that takes a disastrous turn”…

Is Park’s character based on the original Kono role played by Zulu? Remotely, at best…

I don't think so. The original was a very cool crime drama in its day:

Here is some information about the character from the original series that Grace will be playing and original actor who played him.

http://www.hawaiifive0.org/kono6.shtml

Yes, once again Mrs. Park is starring in a reimagined series as a character that was a man in the previous incarnation. I guess it must be because she looks so masculine.

Right?

Something to look forward to.

Hawaii Five-O did have a classic theme song.

Yeah, I can't wait to see Grace running down the beach a la Baywatch as the variant on the original theme plays......

I'm always really happy with gender-blind casting; like Angelina Jolie in Salt, where the role can be a woman or a man and still be great. Go, Grace!

I need some pointless cheese to replace Trauma.

Maybe the ladies will get a bigger kick out of this bit of casting news than I did, but Scott Caan, the son of actor James Caan, has been chosen to play the role of Danny Williams.

Book ‘em, Danno!

This just in via IMDB. I am pleased; I like his work and style.

The 'Hawaii Five-O' pilot just got a bit more interesting. Tough guy actor Scott Caan has been cast as Danno, joining Alex O'Loughlin as Steve McGarrett.
