Her character has what looks to be an interesting story arc to begin the new season.

With Tom Sizemore

I actually watched some of this. The scenery is photographed very nice.

If anyone else watched, did you notice the 5th episode had a "Sharon" vibe to it? I wonder if they did that specifically based on her previous experience with conflicted roles on BSG.

Spoiler: show
Basically, as near as I could tell, the Hawaii Five O team had to steal some forfeiture locker money to save someone's life last season. At the start of this season, the Kono character took the fall for it and was drummed off the force. She was depicted as falling in with a bad element (yeah, right  this is network TV). It wound up with the Five O team actually arresting her. It was like a Boomer flashback as they interrogated poor Sharon, that is Kono, in a dreary cell. Except this time the Internal Affairs Captain played by Sizemore enters, tells McGarret he's done and tells Kono to get up. Turns out she was protecting the team by agreeing to go undercover (not exactly a big surprise). And of course they rally around her for the big climax.

All's well that ends well.

On network TV.

The problem with Hawaii Five-0 is a complete disregard for character continuity. If you thought BSG was bad in that regard...well, it's a model of consistency compared to HF-0. But perhaps I judge too harshly. It is after all just another police procedural, albeit one with a beautiful setting. I guess we shouldn't expect great character development.

Well, that's the difference between an episodic show and one that's supposed to be an extended story. From what I've seen, Hawaii Five O has some little mini-arcs and ongoing issues, but it's fundamentally episodic. As long as the character and continuity oscillations aren't too drastic, it can just bobble along. By contrast, even if an extended story has less inconsistencies, it will be judged more harshly for them because it's aiming at a cumulative effect.

It's the difference between pretending to be serious drama as opposed to an hour of standard scripting and eye candy.

I like Five-O, when I remember to watch it. Really, I have better luck with Pan Am, but I always wanted to be Vicki Barr as a kid....
