Sorry for digging up this old post, but I have something to add:

"Holy crap how did my blog post get all the way out here!?!"

I was here to check if the "Sometimes a Stupid Notion" story had updated and decided to take a look around, but I certainly didn't expect to see that old BSG rant circulating! I wasn't aware that more than a few dozen people had even seen it, let alone that it had circulated on the SciFi channel forums. Huh!

Really glad you guys liked it, though now with half a year more of writing under my belt I'm cringing just looking at it. Apparently I didn't understand the concept of PROOFREADING. Ugh.

It's an excellent rant, right about a number of things. The errors are minor.

Do I dig in again!

If you look at how BSG started and ended , it was almost the Grace Park show, but I digress. Both Sharons were the pivitol characters in the series, things happend because they were there.

Welcome, starstriker! Don't be afraid to have opinions- we have no shortage of those here!

Even if they're all the same! ;)

(...Hey, it's the nature of the site, right? :P)

@ Pierre:
I'd forgotten how long the preface to the Boomer part of the rant was. Where the hell did I ever find the time to WRITE all that? Probably why I never proofread it.

@ Weissman:
If there was one character that the show revolved around it would have to be Admiral "I dropped a frakkin' warship on them from orbit" Adama. He is the Chuck Norris of science fiction, after all. :D

But it wouldn't have been possible without Sharon getting the launch keys first.

That's still a fair ways off "the Grace Park show". :P

I think StarStriker has a point. In RDM's mind, BSG was a Adama(s) & Starbuck show.
That, and God.

I remember discussions like this from back several years ago. If you think about most of the major plot developments in the show, especailly after Sharon made it back to the galactica, they either happend because of or were influenced by either Sharon or Boomer.

Basiaclly without those two the series would have justbeen an updated BSG original series.

Relatively rarely were they viewpoint characters, though. And, again, I think that overstates it. Without Grace Park's characters, yes, it would have been a very different show, but not the difference between a remake and a reenvisioning!
